How to Prime Canvas with Gesso (Lasts 1+ Year Stored)

The following is a beginners method, only intented for beginners or learners canvas. Use it under at your own risk.

Ingredients (500ml batch):

  • 250ml white craft glue (PVA)
  • 150ml water
  • 100g calcium carbonate or baby powder
  • 1 tsp acrylic medium (optional for flexibility)

Step-by-Step:

  1. Mix glue + water until smooth.
  2. Add powder gradually while stirring (no lumps).
  3. Strain through fine mesh.
  4. Store in airtight jar — lasts 12-18 months at room temp.

Pro tip: Apply 2-3 thin coats with a wide brush. Sand between layers for ultra-smooth finish.
